Adele battling herself for number one with three songs from 30 album
Adele has returned to the charts after six years and, as expected, she’s in competition with herself for the UK number one single.
The 33-year-old released her long-awaited fourth album 30 on Friday and she’s already claimed the top three positions on the UK charts.
According to the first look update from the Official Chart, Adele is on course to remain at number one with Easy On Me for its sixth consecutive week. She’s also nabbed the second and third positions on the singles chart with Oh My God and My Little Love respectively.
If Adele does continue to hold the chart summit with Easy On Me, it would be her longest-ever stint at the top of the UK singles chart, even surpassing Someone Like You.
Her trio of tracks are followed by Ed Sheeran claiming the fourth and fifth places with Shivers and Bad Habits respectively. Niall Horan and Anne-Marie’s official Children in Need 2021 single Everywhere, a cover of the classic Fleetwood Mac song, could also be another new entry in the Top 10, currently at number six.
Adele’s 30 album has received wide acclaim from fans and critics alike with many applauding her raw and honest account of her divorce from Simon Konecki.
It was also announced that Spotify has permanently removed the default shuffle button option for albums on its streaming service following a request from Adele herself.
Sharing a tweet from Pop Crave on the news, the Grammy-winner penned: ‘This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry!
‘We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason.
‘Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening.’
The official Spotify Twitter account replied: ‘Anything for you.’
While the option to shuffle tracks is still available, it is no longer the default choice.
