All the info on whether there is extra-time in Carabao Cup fourth-round games
The Carabao Cup fourth round gets underway this week with the Premier League’s big-hitters in action.
With a spot in the quarter-finals up for grabs the focus for the remaining 16 teams will be on ensuring that they’re in the hat for the next round.
The week’s action gets underway with three ties taking place in the capital on Tuesday evening.
Arsenal host Leeds live on talkSPORT while Chelsea face Southampton at Stamford Bridge for a second time in a month with coverage on talkSPORT 2.
But with such a congested fixture list for Premier League sides this season, fans will be anxious to avoid their stars playing longer than they have to.
Is there extra-time in the Carabao Cup this season?
Yes there is…but an additional 30 minutes won’t come into play during any of the fourth-round fixtures this week.
That is because all matches that end as a draw in the first five rounds will go straight to penalties without any extra time.
This means that replays – which have been reintroduced in the FA Cup – will not be a concern for Premier League bosses this week.
Both the Carabao Cup semi-finals and the finals will, however, involve extra time if the respective ties cannot be decided within 90 minutes.
The winner of the Carabao Cup will secure qualification to the UEFA Europa Conference League next season.
As City won the cup last term and had already secured Champions League football, the spot was handed to the next highest-placed team who had not qualified for a European tournament.
Tottenham claimed the place in the inaugural UECL this term.
