All you need to know as Boris Johnson gives Covid Omicron press conference
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to give a Downing Street press conference after new cases of the Omicron variant emerged.
The speech at 4pm comes on the day that restrictions are tightened across the UK.
All adults will get fast-tracked booster vaccines, face masks will be mandatory in shops and on public transport, and travel rules to the UK have been tightened.
The new rules all went into effect Monday and Tuesday, with all close contacts of Omicron cases also having to isolate for 10 days.
It comes as scientists found more than a dozen cases of the strain with more than 30 mutations in the UK - and more cases expected to follow.
The number of confirmed cases of the variant in the UK rose to 14 this morning, after three more were confirmed in Scotland.
