A terrifying first trailer featuring American Horror Story star Evan Peters as serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer has been released.

The eerie clip for Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story – which has been created by AHS's Ryan Murphy and Ratched's Ian Brennan – sees Peters in chilling form.

The limited series tells the story of the notorious killer from the perspective of his victims while also shining a light on the errors of the Wisconsin law enforcement, which meant Dahmer got away with his horrific crimes for years. The killer murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, before he was arrested.

The series previously unveiled a first look at Peters as Dahmer, with a picture showing the actor's uncanny likeness in character.

Alongside Peters, the series will star The Shape of Water's Richard Jenkins, The Artist's Penelope Ann Miller, Never Have I Ever's Niecy Nash, The Dropout's Shaun J Brown and Captain Marvel's Colin Ford.

As seen in the trailer, Nash plays Glenda Cleveland, a neighbour of Dahmer's who made many efforts to report his strange behaviour to the police.

Speaking previously about the role, Evans revealed to Variety: "I've read so much, I've watched so much, I've seen so much, and at a certain point, you've got to say, 'All right, that's enough.'

"There are beautifully written scripts. You can have all the backstory you want, but at the end of the day we're not making a documentary.

"It’s more about maintaining the idea and the through line of why you’re telling the story and always having that as your guiding light."

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story will stream on Netflix.
