The Arsenal men’s squad paid a touching tribute to Beth Mead after her mother tragically died.

The Arsenal Women’s star revealed on Friday that her mum had died on January 7 from ovarian cancer.

And moments after the Gunners beat Tottenham on Sunday, the squad posted a picture from the dressing room with a shirt that read ‘Thinking of you Beth’.

Mead took to social media to respond by posting the picture on Twitter with a love-heart emoji and a crying-happy face emoji.

It follows the Arsenal Women’s tribute, who wore black armbands in their match against Chelsea on Sunday while the club’s official Twitter account posted: “For you, June Mead.”

Sunderland Women, where Mead started her career, also paid their respects by holding a minute’s silence before their match against Durham.

The Lionesses hero responded by saying: “Thank you so much, means the world to us all. Sunderland holds a special place with the Mead family.”

Mead has spoken about her mother’s cancer in the past and how it has affected her career as a footballer and she had a heartfelt message on social media after her passing.

The 27-year-old wrote: “Thought long and hard about what to write but there will never be any words that will do justice. At 1am on the 7th of Jan, our beautiful, kind, funny Mum & Wife passed away after a long & brave battle against Ovarian Cancer.

“She was surrounded by myself, my brother & dad as she passed away peacefully. Our hearts are broken, there will be a piece missing forever but heaven has now gained a special angel.

“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever. I’m sad that you are gone, but I’m more grateful for the time we had together.

“Our family would appreciate some privacy during this difficult time. We love you lots, forever & always. RIP Mama.”

Mead is currently injured after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament that could even force her to miss the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next summer.
