Tonight's (January 11) episode of The Chase's spin-off show Beat the Chasers looked to be a lost cause until the last moment, when Simon Weston CBE snatched a victory from "Britain's best quiz minds".

Host Bradley Walsh hosted the show with guests Carol Vorderman, Joel Dommett, Adrian Chiles, Samia Longchambon and Simon Weston, who all tried to take on the six chasers to win money for their chosen charities.

Vorderman, Dommett, Chiles and Longchambon were all defeated with only a few seconds left on the Chasers' clocks, but luckily they didn't leave empty-handed, with the show giving them £1,000 each for their charity.

Weston, however, got a lot more than that after appearing as the final contestant on the episode.

The amazing result means that he got to take home £40,000 for his charity, Debra, a national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

The deal Weston struck with the Chasers offered him a 21-second time advantage and £40,000 if he could run out the clock with enough correct answers.

He had 12 seconds remaining on his clock when the Chasers' clock ran out, meaning he was able to take home the jackpot to his chosen charity.

Weston was clearly very happy, shouting: "That will do! Yes! Yes! I'll take that."

Walsh then fist-bumped him with a wide grin on his face to see Weston win, commenting that it was a "fantastic performance".

Chaser Jenny Ryan, nicknamed 'The Vixen', agreed: "You know, what really made the difference for Simon was when he didn't know the answer to something or got it wrong, it didn't distract him and that is true quizzing."

Weston is a Welsh veteran of the British Army known for his charity work and recovery from the severe burn injuries he incurred during the Falklands War.
