Beat the Chasers fans witnessed one of the biggest wins in recent times on Monday night’s show, as Game of Thrones star Clive Mantle won a huge £100,000 for charity.

The 63-year-old battled his way to a famous victory after going up against some of the best quizzers in the country during a nailbiting episode.

The actor was playing to win funds for the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain, in an episode which also starred Omid Djalili, Jenny Eclair and Richard Whitehead.

As host Bradley Walsh introduced Clive, known for his role as Lord Greatjon Umber in Game of Thrones, as well as parts in Casualty and Holby City, few could have foreseen the huge win to come.

After raising £3,000 in the cash builder round, he was offered a choice of options. He decided to risk it and face five chasers with 41 seconds on the clock for the six-figure sum.

A tense final round followed, with Clive winning with an impressive 14 seconds left.

‘I can’t tell you what that money will do for the youth theatre,’ Clive said.

The actor seemed emotional after the win, taking a moment to compose himself after blowing the chasers away.

The chasers congratulated him on the victory and Shaun Wallace picked out his correct ‘Oedipus complex’ answer as the most impressive of the round.

Fans took to social media after the episode to congratulate Clive on the ‘emotional’ win, with one writing: ‘I actually feel a bit emotional!!! Well done Clive!!!!!!’

Another said: ‘What brilliant performance by Clive Mantle on Beat the Chasers.’

‘Wonderful win on #BeatTheChasers with the brilliant #clivemantle for @NYTofGB – brought a tear to my eye,’ one more added.

It comes after The Chase fans applauded Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett for helping make the game a more equal playing field when he was up against partially blind contestant, Annah, recently.

The Beast is known for his no-nonsense approach on the ITV show, often showing off his frustrations when he performs below his expectations. But in a recent episode of the tea-time quiz, Mark put his competitive nature aside slightly when he came face-to-face with a visually impaired player.

Beat the Chasers is available to watch on ITV Hub.
