Beat the Chasers star issues warning to Anne Hegerty as he replaces her
Anne Hegerty’s ITV Beat The Chasers replacement has bragged he is "overtaking" her as he steps into her shoes. Issa Schultz, a quizzing legend from Australia, will be joining Jenny Ryan, Mark Labbett, Paul Sinha and Shaun Wallace for the new series as he replaces Anne, who has had to sit this run out as she was diagnosed with coronavirus.
"I got a last-minute call to step into The Governess’s cold and chilly shoes," Issa told The Sun. "What a delight. It was close to 1am Brisbane time - I’m a night owl and my Australian boss said to the UK bosses: ‘Just call him, he’ll be up.’ And then I was on the plane, I think it was close to 9am that very morning.
"As they say, the show must go on! I’d be foolish not to do it." He added: "Anne, I’ve started to overtake in the world rankings. As much as I want to be world number one, it may happen, it may not, it’ll keep me interested for many years to come."
Darragh Ennis, who joined the show back in 2020, told RadioTimes.com : "We've got a new Chaser who literally landed this morning from Australia.
"He got here– I was having breakfast when he arrived in the UK and he's jumped straight into it. But we have no worries about Issa because he's one of the best quizzers in the world." The new season of Beat the Chasers is set to air every night on ITV across next week. Bradley Walsh is returning to host the gameshow.
Beat the Chasers begins on ITV on Monday 16th May at 9pm. Episodes will also be available on ITV Hub.
