Bournemouth player ratings vs Aston Villa: Marcus Tavernier dazzles on his debut

Forced into an early stop from Danny Ings, but was otherwise not made to stretch. Did almost make a meal of a simple catch in the first half, but claimed at the second time of asking. Will surely relish the added competition from Neto.

Crucial in shutting out the danger down his flank, and held the line well with his fellow defenders. Ended up on the turf after taking a heavy blow, but dusted himself off to play on.

Scott Parker opted to tweak his starting position once again, with the makeshift defender shaping up on the right. He scored the opening goal at the other end after crashing through a crowd of bodies, and, overall, gave a superb showing.

Had to be solid, and he absolutely was. Lining up in the centre of the backline, it was Chris Mepham who dropped the deepest to sweep up probing long balls forward. Also notably composed in possession, which helped steady the Cherries.

A captain's performance. Did we really expect anything different? The hosts were forced to concentrate for long periods of the game, and it was Kelly who kept them organised defensively. A couple of crunching challenges also set the tone.

There was none of the wing-back imbalance we saw during much of pre-season. Adam Smith and Jordan Zemura were crucial in shuttling the Cherries down the field, and the latter was particularly involved defensively. Teed up Dominic Solanke for a shot.

A surprise starter after his lack of real minutes during the Cherries' warm-up fixtures, but did the dirty work brilliantly. He put in a few good tackles to get the crowd on their feet after brief lulls, but was cautioned. Will be unfortunate to lose his place next week.

Perhaps wasn't involved as much as he would have liked going forward, but he held his ground admirably in midfield. A constant presence during attacks from both sides, and used his body to spark havoc for the corner leading to Lerma's goal.

A dream debut for the tricky midfielder. Thrown into the firing line straight from the off, he didn't disappoint. Very sharp on the ball and always scanning when not in possession. Tried to twist away and lead the Cherries forward at every available opportunity.

This was a classic serving of Dominic Solanke. For much of the game, the hosts relied on both their No 9 and Kieffer Moore to make runs in behind, particularly down the channels. He was more than happy to do just that, and also saw an effort saved.

Had been kept relatively quiet in and around Villa's penalty area, but popped up with the decisive header to double the Cherries' lead. He never looked as though he would miss his chance on his Premier League debut of all occasions.

The Cherries leaned on the substitute in their bid to regain some composure on the ball. The hosts quickly reverted from struggling to play through the thirds on the transition to popping passes around to see out the latter stages of the game.

Brought on to help his side keep up their energy levels following the second goal. Helped them do exactly that.

Brilliant to see him brought on for the final couple of minutes. Can have a real impact this season provided he can stay fit.
