Cheltenham Festival Day One – LIVE results
The greatest show on turf is well and truly underway as the Cheltenham Festival got off to a flyer on the first of what is set to be four sensational days of National Hunt racing.
Willie Mullins trained an amazing 10 winners at last year’s Festival and the master of Closutton will be hoping to achieve a similar feat this term with a predictably power-packed battalion heading from over the Irish Sea and he got on the scoresheet on Tuesday as El Fabiolo secured the Arkle Chase and Gaillard Du Mesnil ran out a fortunate winner of the National Hunt Chase.
Day One's feature race was The Unibet Champion Hurdle (15:30) and Constitution Hill provided Nicky Henderson with a ninth winner of the race under an armchair ride. We told you so in our top tips.
The Mares Hurdle (16:10) saw a swansong for Honeysuckle as she saw off allcomers and the dual champion hurdle winner is sure to be wanted in the breeding paddocks.
It was another big day for Lucinda Russell as Corach Rambler posted back-to-back successes in the Ultima Handicap Chase (14:50). An impressive winner last year, she rewarded a confident ride from regular pilot Derek Fox.
