The artist and bestselling children’s author Ian Falconer has died sadly young of kidney failure.
He was David Hockney’s life partner and operatic co-designer in the 1990s. Hockney designed the sets for Tristan in LA, Turandot in Chicago and Frau ohne Schatten at Covent Garden, while Falconer drew the costumes.
After parting from Hockney, he was associated with the filmmaker Tom ford but his chief fame was as author of the Olivia series of children’s books.
