Events of the Week: ‘Poolman,’ ‘A Man in Full’ and More

Here’s a look at this week’s biggest premieres, parties and openings in Los Angeles and New York, including events for Poolman, A Man in Full and Hacks.

After kicking off with a Pulp Fiction reunion on April 18, the TCM Classic Film Festival continued through the weekend, as Jodie Foster had her handprints and footprints enshrined in concrete at the TCL Chinese Theatre and then appeared at a screening of her film The Silence of the Lambs; Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins reunited for a screening of their film The Shawshank Redemption; and Mel Brooks introduced a closing night presentation of his film Spaceballs.

Chris Pine premiered his directorial debut in Los Angeles on Wednesday, alongside co-stars Danny DeVito, DeWanda Wise, Jennifer Jason Leigh and producer Patty Jenkins.

Stars of the new Netflix series, including Jeff Daniels, Diane Lane, Aml Ameen, Lucy Liu, Sarah Jones, Jon Michael Hill, Chanté Adams and Evan Roe, reunited with showrunner David E. Kelley and director/EP Regina King at a Los Angeles special screening on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Max celebrated the third season of Hacks with a party at the Chateau Marmont, with showrunners Lucia Aniello, Jen Statsky and Paul W. Downs, as well as series cast Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Kaitlin Olson, Mark Indelicato, Jane Adams, Christopher McDonald and Kathryn Newton. The event featured a performance by the Aqualillies, DJ stylings from Daisy O’Dell, and custom artwork of guests by fashion illustrator Joana Avillez.

Time convened the 18th annual Time100 Gala, celebrating its list of the world’s most influential people, in NYC on Thursday. Taraji P. Henson was the host of the evening, which featured musical performances by Dua Lipa and Fantasia Barrino and appearances by members of this year’s list, including Patrick Mahomes, Maya Rudolph, 21 Savage, Colman Domingo, Kylie Minogue and Kelley Robinson, as well as a special Time100 Impact Award presented to Michael J. Fox.

George Stephanopoulos celebrated his upcoming book, The Situation Roo, at a party alongside his wife, Ali Wentworth, and their friends, including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, JJ Abrams, Katie McGrath, Bob Iger, Michael Smith, Sean Hayes and Maria Shriver, in Los Angeles on April 19.

Paramount+ hosted a family and friends special screening event of Knuckles at Paramount on Saturday, with series stars Adam Pally, Cary Elwes, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O’ Shaughnessey, Ben Schwartz and Rob Huebel.

Mercy for Animals held its 25th-anniversary gala honoring Kate Mara, Travon Free, Tabitha Brown and Charo at Rolling Greens in Los Angeles on Saturday, celebrating two decades of driving change for farmed animals around the globe.

On Saturday, Dwyane Wade welcomed Bob Marley’s family for a special tribute to the late music icon, as he hosted a High Dining event with his Jeeter business partners at a private estate in West Hollywood. Guests including Gabrielle Union, Zac Levi, Jay Ellis, Jeff Ross, Seth Green, Trevor Wallace, Karrueche, Nazanin Mandi and Freddie Prinze Jr. celebrated 4/20 with a musical set by Skip Marley.

Executive producers Charlie Brooker and Jessica Rhoades joined stars Kate Mara and Josh Hartnett at an Emmy event for the Netflix anthology series on Sunday.

Universal Studio Group hosted its annual Emmy season kick-off luncheon at Casa Madera in West Hollywood on Tuesday. Attendees included talent and producers from Emmy-eligible shows Apples Never Fall, Based on a True Story, Dr. Death, Girls5Eva, Hacks, Loot, Lopez vs Lopez, Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie, Never Have I Ever, Resident Alien, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, Ted, The Gilded Age and The Wall.

Bill Skarsgard, Isaiah Mustafa, Andrew Koji and Famke Janssen joined director Moritz Mohr at the New York premiere of their new film on Tuesday.

New streaming platform The Network celebrated its upcoming launch — as well as new drama series The Green Veil, starring John Leguizamo — with a premiere party in NYC on Tuesday.

Mercedes-Benz premiered the all-new electric G-Class at Los Angeles’ Franklin Canyon Park on Tuesday, with support from Bradley Cooper, Kendall Jenner, Saweetie, Tracee Ellis Ross, Selma Blair, Ciara, Madelaine Petsch, Trevor Noah and a performance by Travis Scott.

The Museum of Broadway welcomed Merrily, We Roll Along stars Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez to announce the 2024 Outer Critics Circle Awards nominees live from the museum on Tuesday, as well as pose with some of their personal items on display.

HBO celebrated the new season of We’re Here at a tastemaker screening and FYC event on Wednesday at the Avalon Hollywood, with the new cast including Sasha Velour, Priyanka, Jaida Essence Hall and Latrice Royale.

A24 hosted an NYC event for Jane Schoenbrun’s horror movie, starring Justice Smith, Brigette Lundy-Paine and Ian Foreman, on Wednesday.

Hulu hosted a screening of its documentary, The Contestant, in NYC on Wednesday, with film subject Nasubi, director Clair Titley and producer Megumi Inman.

On Wednesday, No Kid Hungry held its Los Angeles No Kid Hungry Dinner to commemorate its 40th anniversary and to honor individuals — including chef Mary Sue Milliken, auctioneer Billy Harris and corporate partner Kia — who have made an impact in eradicating hunger and poverty. The dinner was held at a private residence in Beverly Hills where chef and TV host Lorena Garcia led the evening’s events as emcee, and Lisa Loeb also performed an acoustic set.
