If Saturday's game is anything to go by, Newcastle desperately need some new players if they are to stay in the Premier League this season.

The Magpies suffered an embarrassing 1-0 FA Cup defeat to League One Cambridge United at St James' Park thanks to Joe Ironside's winner.

Newcastle are the richest club in the world following their Saudi-backed takeover in October and have already flexed their financial muscles, signing Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid last week.

But, after winning just one of their opening 19 Premier League games this season, it's obvious they need to be very active in the transfer window if they want to avoid the Championship.

Here, Mirror Football takes a look at every player Newcastle are currently linked with... including a Manchester United star.

Who should Newcastle sign in the January transfer window? Let us know in the comments below!

Newcastle have conceded 42 goals in the Premier League this season, the joint-worst record in the competition (shared with Norwich).

It's obvious they need some defensive reinforcements and it's believed their first-choice target is Lille ace Sven Botman.

Newcastle have reportedly offered £29.3million for the 21-year-old, who won Ligue 1 last season, although Lille are thought to be holding out for at least £35m.

If the Toon fail to sign Botman, they could make a move for Monaco's £35m-rated star Benoit Badiashile. Rumours suggest they are currently discussing a deal for the 20-year-old.

West Ham ace Issa Diop, 25, could be a cheaper option, as it's thought they are considering making a £10m bid.

The Hammers paid Toulouse a reported £22m for the former France youth international three-and-a-half years ago, but he has just 18 months remaining on his existing deal.

Newcastle are also thought to be weighing-up a move for Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly, but he could prove just as expensive as Botman and Badiashile.

The Cherries paid Bristol City a reported £13m for the 23-year-old in May 2019 and are currently challenging for promotion to the Premier League.

With two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, the Toon will have to pay a substantial amount of money if they are to lure Kelly away from the south coast.

Another defender linked with Newcastle is Sevilla's experienced star Diego Carlos, who won last summer's Olympic tournament with Brazil.

Sevilla have reportedly already rejected a £25m offer from the Premier League side for the 28-year-old's services.

The final defensive option is Samuel Umtiti, who hasn't made more than 20 appearances in a season since the 2017-18 campaign for Barcelona.

The 28-year-old has just signed a new contract at the Nou Camp, however, and is unlikely to leave anytime soon.

Eddie Howe's midfield three of Jonjo Shelvey, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton have done well in recent weeks, but he'll still be keen to add more quality to that department if the opportunity arises.

Marseille star Boubacar Kamara would be a great option. The defensive midfielder, 22, is one of the best young players in France and is expected to be handed his senior international debut soon.

The problem is several other teams have been linked with Kamara, including Champions League chasing West Ham. It's believed he wants a £150,000-a-week deal, although that won't be a problem for Newcastle.

In attacking midfield, Todd Cantwell could be an option. Several clubs - including Newcastle - are said to be chasing the £15m-rated Norwich ace, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Juventus manager Max Allegri has confirmed ex-Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey is available, with the Magpies and several other clubs thought to be pushing for a loan deal.

Georginio Wijnaldum, who was part of the Newcastle team that suffered relegation in 2015-16, could also become available this month.

The Dutchman is reportedly unhappy with his lack of minutes at Paris Saint-Germain and the Toon are considering an audacious swoop for his services.

Just three teams have scored fewer goals than Newcastle (19) in the Premier League this season, Burnley (16), Wolves (14) and Norwich (eight).

Howe's team need a new striker - especially with Callum Wilson ruled out for up to eight weeks with a calf injury - and Man Utd's Anthony Martial could be the perfect option.

The 26-year-old wants to leave Old Trafford in January and has a prolific record in the Premier League, scoring 56 goals in 174 appearances.

Martial could be available on loan for the remainder of the season, which would suit Newcastle's financial fair play budget.

Newcastle are also thought to be interested in Liverpool striker Divock Origi, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The problem with Origi is two Reds forwards - Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane - are currently at the Africa Cup of Nations and manager Jurgen Klopp may be reluctant to letting him leave while he's short of numbers.

Liverpool only paid £10m for the 26-year-old way back in July 2014 and have already had their money's worth, with the player scoring crucial goals in their 2018-19 Champions League triumph.

Bournemouth ace Dominic Solanke is believed to be another option but, like team-mate Kelly, could cost a small fortune.

The Cherries spent a reported £19m on the 24-year-old and will not want to lose his goals, hitting 18 in 25 Championship appearances this season.

Marseille striker Bamba Dieng could be a cheaper candidate, with the French club reportedly wanting €15m (around £12.5m) for his services.

The 21-year-old has just 18 Ligue 1 appearances to his name, though, and is perhaps too inexperienced for a relegation battle.

Newcastle have reportedly made an enquiry for Zenit Saint Petersburg ace Sardar Azmoun, who's scored 52 goals in his last 79 league outings. Transfermarkt value the 27-year-old at £22.5m.

They're also believed to be interested in Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos, who's scored 64 goals in 138 Scottish Premiership appearances. Transfermarkt value the 25-year-old at £11.7m.

Several Premier League clubs - including Newcastle - continue to be linked with prolific Brazil international Gabriel Barbosa. The 25-year-old hit 12 goals in 17 league games last year.

A more audacious option is Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Newcastle are thought to be keen on the 24-year-old but may struggle to agree a deal, as Man Utd and Barcelona are likely to table another offer between now and the summer.

The final man on the list is Arsenal's former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who won't be available until the end of the month because of his international commitments.

The Gabon international, 32, is currently playing at the AFCON but has reportedly been deemed surplus to requirements at the Emirates after losing the armband last month.

Newcastle are willing to sign Aubameyang on loan for the rest of the season - taking care of his huge £350,000-a-week salary - with a view to a permanent £20m deal in the summer.

Aubameyang has proven Premier League pedigree... but is he - and everyone else on this list - up for a relegation scrap? All will be revealed in the coming days.
