James Thorogood, match reporter: With just three points separating first and fourth, nothing has been won or lost yet in Group A3. Germany and Italy are the two remaining unbeaten sides, but the pressure remains on both to deliver. Germany are still in search of not only their first win of the League Phase, but also their first win under Hansi Flick against elite opposition. The hope is that victory over Italy could help answer some of the questions being asked of Tuesday’s hosts.
What the coaches say
Hansi Flick, Germany coach: "We have a number of new players in the squad and are still working on developing the team. We're very positive about things. Italy are doing well, they have a very broad squad to choose from, and they always seem to have a different team playing. They have nothing to lose [since they are not going to the World Cup] and they can focus on looking ahead to EURO [qualifying]."
Roberto Mancini, Italy coach: "The youngsters have shown character, I was impressed. It looked like they had been playing together for longer. We've done some good work, but there's a long way to go still. We will see fresh legs tomorrow, it's the last game of this series and it won't be easy."
What happens after the UEFA Nations League group stage? The four group winners in League A will advance to the knockout finals with, in principle, one appointed as hosts. The semi-finals will be played on 14 and 15 June 2023 with the final and third-place play-off to follow on 18 June. The teams finishing fourth in the groups in League A will be relegated to League B for the 2024/25 edition.
