Hairy Bikers: Dave Myers and Si King had 'spat' during filming: 'Show falling apart'
The Hairy Bikers Go North will air on BBC Two at 8pm tonight, and the TV stars travel to an area close to Dave's heart. Dave and Si visit Cumbria and the Lake District. The Lakes is the most visited national park in England, with picturesque scenery and a wealth of nature. Dave takes Si around his beloved home turf in search of the best produce and food it can offer, cooking a Cumbrian breakfast, a summer vegetable strudel and a Thai feast along the way.
The Hairy Bikers have travelled to various parts of the world exploring different cuisines, and have built a recognisable TV brand as a result. But, even as Dave and Si admit, the journey hasn't always been smooth. While shooting a show in Namibia during the early days of their career, the cooking partners had a "spat" over a bottle of mayonnaise. In an interview with the i newspaper in 2017, the pair discussed the argument. Dave clarified the row was "verbal, not fists" and that the disagreement was "about the type of oil to use in mayonnaise.” Last year, Dave spoke to Express.co.uk about the same argument.
He explained: “I don’t know if he told you this but we had one spat in Namibia. And we were both very nervous. “We had shot the pilot for our very first programme and our spat was over mayonnaise. “It was over the oil used in mayonnaise as we walked up and down the aisles. In the early days, we had to do our own food shopping for our shoot. And I think we thought the programme was falling apart really.” Speaking to the i back in 2017, Si explained why he and his on screen partner have a good relationship. He said: “We instinctively know when one’s a little bit down or up. We just give each other the space that we need.” The Hairy Bikers also shared a funny story from when they visited Vietnam and were presented with a goat penis hotpot. Dave said: “It wasn’t dressed or butchered. It was the whole block and tackle.” The two men played “spin the plate because nobody wanted to start at the pointy end”, but it was Si who drew the short straw in the end. Si added: “I got the nuts, as it were.” Si has been open in recent years about his health since having a brain aneurysm in 2014. But Dave also spoke recently about his own health, saying he was devastated after a diagnosis of glaucoma at the opticians. In an interview with the Mirror last month, he said he told the optician: “‘I don’t think so. I had a bit of a night last night. So I’ve probably just got a bad hangover.’ “But she took no notice and referred me to my GP who made a hospital appointment. And she’d been right. DON'T MISS
