Hollyoaks has revealed another casualty of this week's explosion in a post-credits scene.

A tag at the end of Wednesday's (January 12) first-look episode confirmed that Marnie Nightingale has died in the aftermath of the blast, along with Sylver McQueen and Celeste Faroe.

Marnie's demise came as a shock because, although she'd been warned by Misbah Maalik about a possible head injury, it was Juliet and Romeo who appeared to be more seriously injured initially.

Romeo was back on his feet early on in the episode, whereas Marnie had to break the news to the rest of the family that Juliet needed her spleen removed in emergency surgery.

Marnie had a row with James when he finally showed up, accusing him of "always walking out" on his loved ones when they need him. James had refused to support Juliet proposing to Peri by helping her buy a ring.

James went to Juliet's bedside to pledge to stand by her now. Marnie overheard the conversation, but before she could react, Juliet finally started to wake up.

"Am I dying?" Juliet asked, with Marnie promising: "No, everything's fine! No-one's dying today, silly. Not on my watch."

Misbah later found Marnie outside the hospital to assure her Juliet would recover in time.

Marnie also had a heart-to-heart with Donna-Marie about how she'd received "another chance" to make up for her mistakes through her relationship with Romeo and Juliet.

"[It's] because of you, darling," she tearfully told Donna-Marie. "I am so grateful that you came back… You've made our world complete."

Marnie then put her head down on Donna-Marie's shoulder while Donna-Marie was explaining how she felt the happiest she'd ever been.

Donna-Marie first thought she'd "stunned [Marnie] into silence", but then called out for help when she found Marnie was completely unresponsive.

The episode technically ended with a traumatised James watching as Misbah tried to revive Marnie with chest compressions.

Sadly, in a post-credits scene, a news report listed Marnie among the dead from the explosion.

Hollyoaks airs new episodes from Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look screenings at 7pm on E4. Selected omnibus episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video.
