Hotline callers are laughing at Rangers' Kevin Clancy complaint list to Sfa

The news Rangers chiefs have gone postal after mailing off a letter to Hampden complaining about EIGHT of referee Kevin Clancy’s big calls during Tuesday’s draw with Aberdeen has caused a stir.

But it was a race to beat the postman for the Celtic faithful as they dashed to get their thoughts over in time for today’s Hotline.

And the Hoops support reckon they could write a book about the number of times Gers have benefitted from dodgy decisions.

Steven McDonald’s contribution was first to drop through the letterbox as he said: “What a cheek Rangers have to be complaining about Clancy’s performance the other night. They have demanded to know why Scott Brown wasn’t booked for simulation but what about Alfredo Morelos’ play-acting in the first half. And they seem to have conveniently forgotten all about Clancy ignoring a blatant penalty award after Allan McGregor’s foul on Ryan Hedges.”

Gordon Ashley, Ayr, added: “If ever a week summed up the Rangers support it’s this one. First they moaned that Celtic were scared and wanted the Glasgow derby cancelled when we didn’t, then as soon as they had two first-team players ruled out they were the ones running scared and wanting it cancelled!

“Then they moaned that Broony was winding up Ryan Kent a player who tried to punch him in a game a couple of years back and who celebrated in front of Celtic fans with an imaginary gun to his head, It’s utterly embarrassing stuff.”

James McNally said: “To hear the Rangers fans complaining about Scott Brown is laughable considering Kent got away Scot free (on the day itself) after assaulting Brown with a punch at Parkhead. If you did that outside football you would have been charged with assault so dry your eyes!”

Hoops fan Bud Hay, Dumfries, emailed in: “Here we go again, Rangers fans crying into their cornflakes about this draw! Well in my opinion Aberdeen should have won, so stop crying and always blaming the ref.”

Danny Gallacher, Croftfoot, also emailed in to say: “I’ve been away for the last five years and have just got back to see Rangers’ and their fans complaining that referees are against them.

“What’s happened as before I left people always used to ask when they heard the results ‘who scored Rangers’ penalty?’

“There were surveys carried out and statisticians said the percentages in favour of Rangers were impossible without a high level of bias. However, I’ve just read a new survey which says Rangers are still awarded the most penalties in Scotland, with Celtic fourth on the list. So it must be the attitude of the club and fans that have changed to one of unjustified paranoia!”

Liam Birney, Paisley, said: “The Rangers fans who say Aberdeen only show up against them really need to do their homework. The last time Aberdeen beat them in the league was May 2018. As for all their mumping and moaning about the referee on Tuesday night there was little to no mention about the worst decision of the night, the penalty and sending off of McGregor which ended up securing a point for Rangers! As for Brown, if Rangers keep biting he will gladly provide the bait! Have they learned nothing after all these years?”

But Colin Campbell, Hamilton, reckons Rangers were well within their rights to demand answers from the SFA.

He said: “Clancy’s performance the other night was atrocious. I’ve counted at least four occasions when Brown should have been booked at Pittodrie, so how he managed to finish the 90 minutes is beyond me. I’m not silly enough to think there’s a conspiracy against my side like a certain club’s supporters but I do think Clancy should be nowhere near a top-flight fixture until he can prove his eyesight works.”

Joe Smith, Coleraine agreed as he said: “It's time referees were demoted if they continually get decisions wrong, Managers are sacked and players disappear down the leagues if they continually play poorly. Clancy, John Beaton, Bobby Madden and Don Robertson are awful referees.”
