The winners of the Location Excellence Awards (LEAs) are in following last night’s BAFTAs.

The LEAs were created by Leeds-based UK Locations CEO Lauren York, who has been lobbying BAFTA for two years to create a dedicated BAFTA award for location professionals, and set up the LEAs to tide us over in the meantime.

The awards are handed out the morning after the main BAFTA TV awards to the location teams judged to have carried out the most impressive work on each of the previous evening’s BAFTA winners.

Key Northern winners this year included Scripted Comedy winner Such Brave Girls (pictured), which was filmed on Merseyside courtesy of location manager Phil Gates, who lives in Manchester, and Short Form winner Mobility, which was filmed in Huddersfield with location managers Ben Sweet and Shane Hamil, who are both from Yorkshire.

LEA founder Yoek announced the winners on LinkedIn, saying: “In the light of the BAFTA’s last night, and as we continue to lobby BAFTA for a dedicated location award, I have created The Location Excellence Awards that recognises location excellence in BAFTA nominated and awarded TV and films.

“They definitely aren’t as fancy as winning the real thing, but I think it’s important to mention every location professional that worked incredibly hard, both creatively and logistically, which no doubt supported in these productions being nominated and winning a BAFTA.”
