I'm A Celebrity's Adam Woodyatt reveals the REAL reason he quit as EastEnders

EASTENDERS legend Adam Woodyatt has opened up on the real reason he made the shocking decision to leave the BBC soap.

The actor is currently one of 11 campmates on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! and was probed by the others on why he left such a popular role.

Adam starred as Walford's resident baddie for 36 years until November 2020, when he had originally planned to take a break from the show.

"I just had another opportunity, there was this play came up and I just fancied doing something different," Adam told Frankie Bridge.

He then revealed the show's bosses had wanted his character to take a pause, which he saw as a chance to leave.

"The way the storyline went, they needed me to take a break and the breaks just got longer."

Paralympic champion Kadeena Cox then queried Adam on whether or not he'd fancy trying his hand at film acting.

"I'm available as of April," the star joked.

Adam also told his campmates how he got his start in acting when his mum asked the mum of another classmate who had been working doing ads on the TV.

He then began casual tutelage with iconic acting teacher, Sylvia Young, "way, way, way before she had her acting school."

"Looking back, that's where my love affair with acting started," a beaming Adam said in the Bush Telegraph.

"No school, on telly, get paid, job done!"

Adam, 53, was the BBC soap’s longest serving character and the only original cast member to have appeared continuously since its launch in 1985.

His admission that he appeared on Eastenders until November, 2020 and he wasn't going back might come as a surprise to BBC bosses.

They were unsure if he would return after his break and I’m A Celeb chiefs offered him a bumper deal to be on their show.
