Jenny Eclair has given us plenty to chuckle about throughout her long career as a comedian, but unfortunately life hasn’t entirely been a barrel of laughs for her.

It was recently revealed that she was in a major health battle after injuring her neck.

The star of Grumpy Old Women, who was also once a contestant on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me out of Here!, was forced to cancel a number of her shows in December after being rushed to hospital with severe nerve pain.

After hours waiting in A&E, Jenny finally received the help she needed. She was referred to a neurosurgeon, who booked her in for surgery. Had she not got help in time, she could have lost the use of her left hand.

In a tweet she posted during her recovery, she wrote: “I am very fortunate to be able to fund the treatment for the nerve damage in my neck - without swift action I risk losing the use of my left hand - also weepingly grateful for being right handed.”

After her operation on December 19, Jenny again tweeted, saying: “I didn’t think I’d have this much pain - I’ll be fine in a bit, but I’ve never been through anything like this before and I’m a bit shocked.”

But now seemingly in good spirits, Jenny is set to return to our screens in the latest instalment of ITV’s Beat the Chasers, which airs on Monday at 9pm.

Jenny would have no doubt been nursed back to health by her loving husband and long-time partner Geoff Powell, who she married in 2017 after the couple had been together for 35 years.

Prior to tying the knot with the famous interior designer, Jenny had long spoken against marriage, describing it as "incredibly naff".

Speaking to the Guardian in 2008, she said: "I don't do marriage. I think it's incredibly naff. And I don't like vulgar displays of ostentation”.

But in a later interview she did with You Magazine, Jenny said she had decided to marry Geoff because it felt like the right time.

She said: "It felt more like tidying things up than anything else. I mean, I love him to bits, he's 70 now, and when I see him on the stairs, I think, 'Don't fall!'

"But the truth is, I was getting increasingly cross about the taxman getting his hands on so much of my very hard-earned money when I die, so I insisted that Geoff marry me this time."
