Rob Burrow has revealed the exchange he had with Kevin Sinfield as the pair finished the Leeds Marathon together. The iconic image of the two finishing the run, with Sinfield carrying Burrow across the finishing line, has spread across the world.

Over £4 million has been raised for various charities as a result of the marathon, which was created to honour Burrow and to continue spreading awareness for Motor Neurone Disease, which the former Leeds Rhinos star was diagnosed with back in 2019.

In total, Sinfield's fundraising efforts for MNDA have surpassed £8 million, while Burrow's journey has brought worldwide awareness to MND. In an interview with The Sun, Burrow shed light on his run with Sinfield, and the conversation they had when completing the race.

He said: “Kevin whispered, ‘You’re not going to beat me, Rob, we are finishing together’. He then kissed me on the cheek. It was a day in a million. It felt like scoring in a Grand Final again."

He added: "It felt fantastic to be part of a team again with my mate Kevin as our captain. Kevin joked that he didn’t want me to beat him by crossing the line (in my chair) first. I think he knew I had a cunning plan to claim that I finished before him."

The pair were key players in Leeds Rhinos' most successful ever period, with the team known as the 'Golden Generation'. The pair won seven Super League titles, two Challenge Cup trophies and the World Club Challenge on three occasions. More recently it has been their friendship, and their amazing work for MND, that has touched the hearts of people across the world.
