The race for the next Liverpool manager has taken another twist with Arne Slot the new favourite and Ruben Amorim's previously strong position now looking less certain amid talk of a potential switch to West Ham.

Having missed out on Xabi Alonso - following the Spaniard's decision to remain with Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen, the Anfield giants reportedly identified Sporting manager Amorim as their next preferred target. However after initially being available at a price of 1/4, the Portuguese coach's links to West Ham have now seen the odds on Amorim have widen to 6/4, indicating a significant drop in the perceived likelihood of him succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, from an 80 per cent chance down to just 40 per cent.

Feyenoord boss Arne Slot has seen his prospects rise dramatically in the betting stakes, with his odds being cut from a long 50/1 to a much shorter 3/1, making him the new second favourite for the role. Before Monday's reports, Slot had only attracted a mere 1.2 per cent of all bets, but he's now the focus of 29 per cent of wagers placed on the day.

Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi is another name whose odds have been affected by the Amorim speculation, with his chances improving from 14/1 to 5/1, placing him as the third-favourite. Wolves boss Gary O'Neil is available at a wider price of 16/1, while Thomas Tuchel is priced at 20/1 and fellow German coach Julian Nagelsmann is available at 22/1.

Oddschecker spokesperson Leon Blackman commented: "Monday saw significant changes in the betting for the next Liverpool manager, with Ruben Amorim's odds drifting amidst speculation of other job opportunities. Despite previously capturing nearly 50 per cent of all bets over the past 30 days, that figure now stands at 16% as attention shifts elsewhere in the market."

"Feyenoord's Arne Slot has emerged as a new contender, with his odds slashed from a substantial 50/1 to 3/1, making him a popular choice among punters, garnering 29 per cent of bets on Monday. Brighton's Roberto De Zerbi has also seen strong support, with his odds shortened from 14/1 to 5/1 at the time of writing."
