Machine Gun Kelly on walking Dolce & Gabbana and turning off social media with Megan Fox
Last week, Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox were getting engaged in Puerto Rico, where they met and fell in love on the set of the movie Midnight in the Switchgrass. This week, they were in Milan attending Dolce & Gabbana’s Autumn 2022 menswear show.
With Megan seated in the first row wearing lace and leather, Kelly opened the show, emerging in front of a 20-foot tall LED screen lit up with his name in bright pink graffiti. The rapper came out in silence, like a magician about to perform an epic trick, then performed two songs from his latest pop-emo-rap-punk album, Tickets to My Downfall. Then he closed the show, taking a white silk double-breasted suit covered in pearls and studs for a spin down the runway.
Afterwards, I met Kelly backstage. Still in his glammed-out D&G suit, he smiled and introduced me, ever-so-graciously, like a real Texas gentleman, to his fiancée as she floated beside us, now wearing a blue silk kimono. I thought congratulations were in order, considering this was their first public outing since their engagement “under the banyan tree” and the consequent, you know, drinking of the blood. Then Kelly and I sat down in two massive, golden, Dolce & Gabbana-appropriate chairs to chat.
GQ: So, how did the performance come together?
Machine Gun Kelly: This morning me and Mr Dolce were in rehearsal, for like a last-minute soundcheck, and that’s when I added in the MPC board that I used to trigger the sounds during the show. We also added that element of silence at the beginning, to make it like a museum exhibit, when the initial countdown was over, and I just walked out, almost like a concerto. Almost like… Mozart? But like a 2022 Fashion Week Milan-style Mozart concerto.
