Manchester United fans have been left impressed by Facundo Pellistri following his performance for Uruguay in their World Cup opener against South Korea.

Pellistri arrived at Old Trafford in 2020 having been bought from Penarol. Having arrived in October, the then-teenage winger joined Alaves in January to gain first-team experience.

United once again opted to loan Pellistri to Alaves in the summer of 2021 where, despite making 23 appearances for the La Liga side, he failed to score a goal or register an assist. Since Erik ten Hag's arrival, Pellistri has been in and around the first team.

Although he has made the bench on a number of occasions, Pellistri has not yet featured for the senior squad. His only appearance this campaign came for the U21s during their victory over Barrow in the EFL Trophy.

The winger has since spoken out about wanting more chances with United under Ten Hag. While he has so far failed to receive opportunities at United, he has been backed internationally.

Uruguay boss Diego Alonso opted to include him in his squad for the Qatar World Cup and he played 88 minutes as the South American giants drew 0-0 with their Asian opponents. Pellistri was close to notching an assist in the first half but the opportunity his ball created was squandered by Liverpool's Darwin Nunez.

Pellistri's agent, meanwhile, has been very vocal about his client having a good World Cup and using it as an exit strategy from United. They may not want him to leave but United fans on Twitter agreed that Pellistri impressed against South Korea. Here is what they had to say:
