Martin Lewis shares hack that could save you £30 on your Zara haul

There’s nothing better than purchasing some new bits from Zara for your summer wardrobe.

However, if you are heading to Spain in the coming months, your bank balance will be in better health if you wait to shop there instead of in the UK.

Martin Lewis knows a thing or two about saving money and in the latest episode of The Martin Lewis podcast for BBC Radio 5, the financial expert shares how Brits can save on their shopping with the fashion retailer.

Martin explained to listeners that Zara in Spain is ‘substantially’ cheaper than in the UK, and you can save up to 25% shopping there instead of at home.

‘Now remember that a euro is not worth as much as a pound,’ he says. ‘But the euro price is lower than the pound price even before you do the conversion.’

To put this price difference into action, Martin advised people to visit the Zara website, set the location to Spain and the language to English. So, if you happen to be travelling to the popular tourist destination in the near future, you can check the prices of items before you go.

‘You can just do a cost comparison to the UK,’ he adds. ‘So if you are planning on going to Spain at some point this summer, take a big suitcase with you and buy all the Zara stuff.’

Martin himself carried out a price comparison test and the savings were undoubtedly mouthwatering. For a men’s linen suit blazer it costs £109 in the UK, in Spain it’s €89.95. After converting, this will set you back around £80, which is an incredible saving of over £30.

Meanwhile, for a women’s floral print dress, in the UK it costs £119, while in Spain in comes in at €100. After conversion, this will mean you pay around £88.

A leather bag that costs £179 at home is priced at only €159 in Spain, and men’s straight leg jeans that cost £36 in the UK are just €26 in Spain.

Martin finished the segment saying: ‘Basically the quick tip is if you have a holiday booked this summer to Spain or Portugal and you tend to shop at Zara, I’d hold off buying in the UK and wait until you get there because it will be a lot cheaper, as long as you have the space in your luggage to bring it back.’

Earlier in the episode, Martin also advised his listeners to carry out price comparisons on mobile and broadband providers, as now is the ideal time to get a better deal and save serious money.

Inflation hikes at the start of the month mean many people will have seen their mobile and broadband bills increase in some instances by around 8%, but now is the opportune time to compare options as prices are not going to rise again until April next year.

‘You have a level playing field for comparison,’ he says. ‘You can see whether you can save or not. So, this is the perfect time of year to get a fair comparison and the savings here are not small potatoes.’
