Mr Olympia 2021 dedicates trophy to late bodybuilder George Peterson
Mr Olympia winner 2021 Mamdouh Elssbiay dedicated his prize trophy to late bodybuilder George Peterson, who was found dead in his hotel room at 37 years old.
George died only two days before he was scheduled to compete in the Mr Olympia contest.
It is the 46th annual Mr Olympia bodybuilding competition and it took place in Orlando, Florida at the weekend.
With a $400,000 cheque for the winner, the stakes were high and the competition was tense. However, the winner used his platform to pay tribute to his late friend.

The results were as follows:
Mamdouh Elssbiay aka Big Ramy is also 37 and was clearly devastated by the news of George Peterson’s unexpected death.
Therefore in his acceptance speech he paid tribute to the former bodybuilder: “I need to say that this trophy is also for George because he lived for everyone and he did everything he could to be a good bodybuilder, so this trophy is for him.”
He also dedicated the trophy to Radwan Elkwatihi’s (@radwankwatihi) father Elhaj Abdullah Elkwatihi who also passed away recently.
George was found lying dead on the floor of his hotel room in Orlando on Wednesday 6 October 2021.
The organizers of the Mr Olympic event confirmed his death in an Instagram post captioned: ‘it is with great sadness that we report the unexpected passing of George Peterson, a champion on stage and off. Our condolences go out to his family and all who respected and admired one of the kindest men we have ever known.’
George Peterson won the Classic Physique competition at the 2019 Arnold Classic. He was reportedly looking forward to competing in Mr Olympic and was in good spirits the night before he died.
