Marcus Rashford has been slammed by ex-Manchester United defender Paul Parker – who feels the forward should be contributing more than just goals.

Rashford scored in the 3-2 defeat to Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday – meaning he has now netted nine goals in all competitions since the World Cup finished – the most of any player in Europe’s big five leagues.

The England international has registered a total of 17 goals and six assists across 28 games in all competitions so far this season in what has been an impressive campaign for Rashford under new boss Erik ten Hag.

Parker, though, has urged Rashford to do more and aimed a dig at the 25-year-old over his dribbling skills.

Former United defender told wettbasis: ‘You have to respect that he is scoring goals but he also needs to contribute with other things and he is never doing that.

‘He tries to dribble past three defenders with his eyes closed and crossing his fingers.

‘I don’t like what I’m seeing from him in general but it’s also very tough to put him on the bench because the other attacking players would be even worse than him.’

Rashford took to Twitter following United’s loss to Arsenal at the Emirates and said: ‘Never easy to lose a game like that at the last minute but we go again!

‘We’re heading in the right direction and need to remain positive.’

Sunday’s result means United are now 11 points behind leaders Arsenal but still have a strong chance of returning to the top four after a sixth-placed finish last season.

United also remain in the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Europa League as they look to end their six-year trophy drought.

Ten Hag’s side face Nottingham Forest in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday before they take on Reading in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

They also play Barcelona in the Europa League on February 23.
