A popular restaurant close to Folkestone’s Harbour Arm is loved by Andi Oliver and is set to appear on her new BBC Two show. Using her passion for parties, the British TV chef will create eight ‘fabulous feasts’ while telling the story of the people and places she visits - including Rocksalt Restaurant.

The luxury seafood venue, which claimed two AA rosettes, and was once named in the Michelin Guide, has become a favourite destination over the years with locals and visitors. In 2022, the restaurant was named among the best in the UK with a view as it offers stunning views across the English Channel.

And for the foodies out there, it has an A La Carte menu which changes seasonally, showcasing everything from “the freshest fish to the best quality meat”. It reads on the restaurant’s website: “On Sundays, it’s all about the traditional roast, with a selection of locally-reared meats and a roast fish of the day.

“Family is something that is very important to us and we welcome children of all ages offering under 10s their very own menu. We can cater for most dietary needs.”

The menu offers a variety of dishes from Kentish wild garlic pearl barley risotto with rice flakes and parmesan crisps (£23.50), to Poached gilt head bream, prawn and herb mousse, Simpsons Chardonnay and caviar cream, and yuzu (£29.50). The location is also ideal for a romantic date as it offers dishes to share including Romney Marsh rack of lamb (£95) and a whole cold seafood platter (from £120).

Rocksalt has described its menus as the heart and soul of the restaurant. Food can be served inside or outside on its terrace.

The venue said it is sourcing its ingredients as locally as possible “from the day boats working along the South Coast to the local farms set in the rolling Kent countryside”. With sunny days ahead, the Rocksalt’s Wine Bar, which is located on the first floor above, offers a direct access out to Rocksalt Garden and the harbour viaduct.

It said: “Our passion for great produce shown in our food menus is continued into the drink offering, instilling the same focus on quality and creativity through our extensive drinks selection as our relaxed and informal bar menu. Our wine list has been carefully curated with a focus on the best local and continental wines from across the water, with an extensive range of wines sold by the glass that change regularly.”

The BBC show is an eight-part series. Each episode will see Andi’s creativity unfold as she creates unique themed dishes to serve up as a feast. For inspiration, she’ll meet local chefs and suppliers, getting to grips with the regional produce and recipes that make the area special.

The first episode aired on March 27, where Andi headed to Cornwall to help local chef Been Quinn put on a feast to thank NHS staff at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. Then Rocksalt executive group chef, Marcin Szelag, and all the Rocksalt Restaurant team, welcomed Andi Oliver to Folkestone for filming.

Marcin is originally from Poland and he and Andi spent several hours in the kitchen preparing some traditional Polish dishes. Polish food played a big part of Marcin’s life when he was growing up in Poland and became inspired to be a chef.

He told KentLive: "Last summer we were delighted to welcome British chef Andi Oliver to Rocksalt for the day as she filmed for her new BBC Two series, Andi’s Fabulous Feasts, which is a celebration of food, different cultures and music as she travels the length and breadth of Britain. We had a fabulous time cooking two dishes together in Rocksalt kitchen and celebrating the best local and seasonal produce available to us in Kent.

"As I’m originally from Poland we had a lot of fun creating a traditional Polish dish together, something a little different from 'the norm' at Rocksalt. Pierogi, a traditional Polish recipe which takes me back to my childhood, is made using Rebel Farmer beetroot (a fabulous local supplier of ours) with rosary goats cheese and pasta coloured with beetroot.

"The perfect combination of local produce creating a traditional dish in celebration of my heritage and roots. These little beauties were prepared and cooked together at Rocksalt and then later served up at Andi’s music festival which took place up on The Leas bandstand."

The restaurant is set to appear on Andi Oliver's Fabulous Feasts on BBC Two on April 24 at 8pm. The next episode will take place in Bristol and is set to be aired tonight (April 3).
