Post Match | Ross McCrorie on RedTV
Ross McCrorie made it very clear that the Aberdeen performance at Tynecastle was not acceptable.
“The blame for tonight isn’t on the gaffer, it’s on the players.
“We had a good starting XI, but the mentality wasn’t there. To be quite honest, it was embarrassing. It should be a lot closer game. To come away with this result is embarrassing.
“There’s no excuses. Sunday’s game shouldn’t be an excuse, we should be able to go again three days later. We’ve got the fitness and energy levels, but I think we have to question the mentality.
“Playing at Aberdeen means playing with pressure and it’s something we need to be able to cope with. If you can’t do that, you’re not at the right club. It’s no good getting plaudits for playing well at Hampden if we can’t go and do the same in the next game. We were second to everything, the goals were extremely sloppy.
“We are still a good team, we’ve still got a lot of games to play, but we need to sort a few details out within the ranks. We have to rectify the mistakes we keep on making, and that’s a mentality thing as well. We need to get that out of our game asap if we want to accumulate the points we need before the end of the season.
“We need to be consistent and put games together, one after the other. You can’t have a good game and then a bad one. You need to have the right mentality and the attitude to put in the hard yards and earn the right to play, you can’t just roll up and expect to put on a show.”
The Dons are back in action next Monday in the Scottish Cup, and McCrorie is looking for the side to bounce back there.
“Darvel was always a big game because it’s the Scottish Cup. They’ll have been buzzing for the game since the draw, it’s probably the biggest game in their history, they’ll be right up for it. We need to go there with the right mentality if we want to come back up the road with a victory, because we want to go on and do well in the competition this season.”
