Reaction: Ismaël On FA Cup Exit
On how the game panned out:
I think that after the first half we were actually in the game plan, we knew that when you come here you are playing a team with a lot of confidence who haven't lost a game in a long period of time.
You have to be strong, you have to be solid, you have to suffer at some point and you have to be good on the ball as well, stay calm and have that composure. The first 15 minutes were difficult but after that it was much better with the ball, we created some situations and I said to the guys in the second half "we need to step up now" to push for more.
But in the second half after the first goal you just saw that mentally we dropped quickly. Why? The tiredness, we were too late in the duels, we started to get yellow cards, we started to make mistakes.
It’s a clear sign of tiredness and Southampton get that confidence and score the second goal, then the third goal. It was difficult for us to flip the switch and make sure we could get back into the game.
On the schedule and current form:
It was our fourth game in 10 days. We have to deal with that, we are not seeking any excuse but it is a fact on the table. How we want to play, you need that freshness in your mind for decision-making.
The Cardiff game was a big blow for us, before then everything was good. At the minute we are not able to take the next step. We assess the situation and we analyse and try to find solutions. But the schedule makes it difficult for us because it is relentless.
