Anis Mehmeti’s ferocious second half goal clinched all three points for Bristol City against Leicester City on Good Friday.

A series of missed opportunities for The Foxes’ leading goal scorer Jamie Vardy proved costly as the visitors left BS3 empty handed.

A strong performance and result from Liam Manning’s side places them in good stead heading into Easter Monday’s trip to face Plymouth Argyle.

City flew out of the gates and within the first two minutes had their first shot of the afternoon via Jason Knight whose effort deflected for a corner.

Haydon Roberts’ smart pass to Conway allowed the striker to try his luck but his effort was straight at Mads Hermansen.

Soon after Mehmeti fed Conway who saw his effort palmed away by Hermansen, falling to Scott Twine who looked set to score only to be denied by the Foxes keeper’s acrobatic save.

City’s main outlet in Conway was brought down by Wout Faes and despite appeals for a penalty, Andrew Kitchen deemed the defenders challenge a fair one.

Stephy Mavididi and Keirnan Dewsbury-Hall looked the brightest for the visitors who continually threatened down City’s right-hand side

Faes headed his effort wide of the target after leaping the highest to meet Harry Winks’ delivery.

Jamie Vardy would see his effort fly narrowly past the post after he and Hamza Choudhury connected well to beat City’s back line.

The Robins began the second half in similar fashion to the first with Roberts and Pring getting forward early and combining before the former crossed to Twine who’s snap shot forced a block from the Foxes defence.

O’Leary kept his side in the contest after a cracking double save, firstly denying Vardy one-on-one and then Mavididi on the follow up.

Liam Manning made a double substitution on the hour mark which saw Ross McCrorie and Mark Sykes replace Twine and Tanner.

Zak Vyner’s mistake at the back presented Vardy with a golden opportunity but O’Leary’s sublime save denied the forward the opening goal.

Up the other end McCrorie skipped past not one, but two Leicester defenders before wildly thrashing the ball into the side netting.

Nahki Wells entered the game in the 68th minute to replace Conway and City began to build some momentum.

The breakthrough came in the 73rd minute as Sykes found Mehmeti on the edge of the box who took a touch on to his left foot before firing home to give City the lead.

The visitors looked to have scored as Kelechi Iheanacho dinked over O’Leary only to be denied by the linesman’s flag.

Manning made a further substitution with ten minutes to go seeing Knight made way for Joe Williams.

Wells and Sykes both entered the referee’s book as the visitors stepped up their search for an equaliser.

Despite their best efforts City’s defensive discipline proved too much for Leicester City.
