Ellis Simms scored twice to fire the Sky Blues to three points at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The striker scored a brace for the second consecutive game, with strike partner Haji Wright scoring injury time to wrap up the points.

City had the chance to open the scoring inside the opening ten minutes when the Sky Blues caught Huddersfield on the break, with Kasey Palmer releasing Haji Wright and with the striker charging forward, he was able to get a shot away, only to be denied by Lee Nicholls in the Terriers goal.

Brad Collins had to produce some heroics of his own at the other end as Milan van Ewijk lost his footing and that let Josh Koroma through on goal, but the Huddersfield man was unable to beat the City shot-stopper, who made a superb stop.

That save would prove crucial as moments later, Ellis Simms turned his man and rifled the ball into the top corner, leaving Nicholls helpless as he fired the Sky Blues in front at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The striker doubled his and City’s lead minutes after finding the breakthrough, this time Palmer released van Ewijk and he pulled the ball back for Simms, who slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

He could have had a hat-trick almost immediately after; however, this time Nicholls came out on top and made the save.

Huddersfield came close to pulling one back just before the break when David Kasumu let fly from 30-yards-out and his shot rattled the woodwork.

Following the restart, Huddersfield were denied by the woodwork once again, this time Jack Rudoni’s strike came back off the crossbar.

City were looking to see the game out and add a third and there were sighters at goal for Wright and van Ewijk, but neither could find the target.

Callum O’Hare came on for Kasey Palmer just after the hour mark and he was the latest City player to force Nicholls into a stop, this time after a cutback from van Ewijk, which the Terriers ‘keeper saved well.

A misplaced pass in the middle was intercepted by Ben Sheaf and he picked out Wright, who cut inside and unleashed a strike which was palmed away.

Huddersfield halved the deficit with ten minutes remaining through Rhys Healey, who latched onto a misplaced pass at the back.

Collins denied the hosts a leveller minutes after their first and it was Healey again that was able to have sight at goal from a tight angle.

The game was wrapped up in injury time, when Haji Wright scored his 16th goal of the season.
