Report suggests Jurgen Klopp & Liverpool u-turn on Philippe Coutinho
Could Jurgen Klopp actually bring Philippe Coutinho back to Liverpool? Reports suggest the Reds’ boss has had a change of heart.
You’ve almost certainly seen reports linking Liverpool with Philippe Coutinho today. In amongst the drama surrounding Arsenal vs Liverpool, it’s the big talking point today.
Goal are the ones claiming it, suggesting Liverpool, Everton and Newcastle United want the Brazilian. And you’d like to think that Liverpool are favourites there – for several reasons.
First and foremost, there’s not really any better place for Coutinho get revitalise his career than the club he played his best football for. He was a magician in Red, leading them for 18 months and ‘earning’ himself a big-money move to Barcelona.
Now, that move hasn’t worked out, of course. It’s also debatable whether he earned it or forced it – reports certainly indicate that Coutinho deliberately put Liverpool in a difficult position.
And that’s what makes this report so interesting because if Liverpool’s interest is genuine, it suggests a real change of heart from Jurgen Klopp.
Could Jurgen Klopp welcome Philippe Coutinho back to Liverpool?
The Athletic published a report back in September that explained exactly how Coutinho left Liverpool. He tried to force the move through in 2017, essentially, but FSG weren’t willing to sanction it.
Klopp, however, was. He didn’t want Coutinho at the club if he didn’t want to be there and was ‘unimpressed’ with the Brazilian’s attitude.
That’s quite the turnaround, then, and you’ve got to wonder what’s changed. Coutinho certainly isn’t playing like someone you sacrifice your beliefs for and hasn’t for some time.
Perhaps time softened Klopp’s perspective. Maybe he just sees a bargain now that Coutinho’s price has plummeted. Or it could be that the Goal report just isn’t accurate.
If it is, though, we think it’s a sign that Liverpool see a diamond in the rough in Coutinho. They’re certainly the best people to uncover it.
