Southampton midfielder Caleb Watts has joined League Two side Crawley Town on loan.

The Australian international has made the short-term switch to the West Sussex side in a bid to get more experience of senior football, having been a key performer for Southampton's B team so far this term.

Watts, who made his first team debut for Southampton last January in the FA Cup third round tie with Shrewsbury Town, has featured three times in the Premier League for Saints, with all three appearances coming in the 2020/21 season.

He has also featured for Australia at the Olympic Games in Tokyo as the Olyroos missed out on a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament, despite beating Argentina in their first match.

This season, he has been a key figure for Dave Horseman's Southampton B team, scoring one goal and recording six assists in 12 appearances.

But now, he will head out on loan for the rest of the season, with the 19-year-old joining fellow Saints academy player Will Ferry at Crawley Town, with Ferry having been on loan with the League Two side since August.

Crawley currently sit 11th in League Two, with Watts hoping to get game time in the fourth tier of English football to further his experience of senior football.

In a statement confirming his move, Southampton said the club wishes Watts well for the rest of the season and looks forward to monitoring his progress while out on loan.
