Dolly Parton has been on a winning streak for much of 2024. In fact, she’s been soaring high on the Billboard charts with a number of releases and longtime favorites for years now, as the beloved singer-songwriter is not slowing down. This frame, she earns another important hit with one of her oddest collaborations.

On this week’s Digital Song Sales chart, Parton debuts her new single “Powerful Women” at No. 8. According to Luminate, the tune sold 3,666 copies in the past tracking frame, which is impressively not its first.

That’s a healthy figure for any tune in today’s streaming-focused industry, as is evidenced by its top 10 debut on the Digital Song sales chart. The number becomes much more impressive when compared to how “Powerful Women” sold last week. In the prior tracking period, the same single sold just 211 copies. That means the cut’s sales have rocketed by more than 1,700% from one week to the next.

“Powerful Women” marks Parton’s third top 10 hit on the Digital Song Sales chart. Despite being one of the most celebrated and respected musicians in the industry, she has only landed a few major hits on this ranking—which was established long after many of her best-known singles came and went—and now she’s added to that total.

The Grammy winner first reached the highest tier on the Digital Song Sales chart only back in 2020. That year, she nearly conquered the tally for the first time, as her collaboration with Kenny Rogers, “Islands in the Stream,” climbed all the way to No. 2. The tune surged following Rogers’ death.

Last year, Parton returned to the top 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart with a very different kind of tune. Her single “World on Fire” climbed to No. 4, as thousands of Americans were excited to hear not only new music from the singer but her first single from her then-forthcoming rock album Rockstar.

Parton lands her new win alongside rapper Pitbull. The Latin/hip-hop/pop superstar recruited the legend in what must be one of the strangest–but still successful–duets so far in 2024. “Powerful Women” makes use of the chorus from Parton’s “9 to 5,” and she also wrote and performed a rap for the cut as well.

For Pitbull, “Powerful Women” marks his seventeenth top 10 on the same tally. He has topped the Digital Song Sales chart just once before, as he and Kesha sent “Timber” to No. 1 for four frames a little over a decade ago.
