Sally Phillips' heartbreak after husband left her for a Russian yoga instructor

Sally Phillips is no stranger to British TV fans, having racked up dozens of acting credits in a career spanning nearly 30 years.

This week, the Miranda and Bridget Jones actress will put her general knowledge to the test as she stars in Richard Osman's House of Games on BBC Two alongside DJ Rickie Haywood-Williams, composer Vikki Stone and BBC journalist Dan Walker - who was last night booted off Strictly Come Dancing.

But what about Sally Phillips' life off-screen? From raising a son with Down's Syndrome to learning her husband of 14 years had left her for a Russian yoga instructor, the 51-year-old's personal life is very different from the parts she plays on screen.

Phillips was married to shipping director Andrew Bermejo for 14 years and has three sons from their marriage.

In 2017, the actress claimed her husband left her for a member of the Russian yoga federation.

In general, Phillips normally remains tight-lipped about her love life - past and present.

But appearing on an episode of Romesh: Talking to Comedians back in 2018, Phillips spoke to host Romesh Ranganathan about being parents to special needs children, as well as when her husband fell in love with another woman.

Recalling the difficult time, the Hong-Kong born actress was responding to a question about time she spent over in America.

She said: "The last Veep I did, my husband had just left me for a member of the Russian Yoga Federation.

"No word of a lie. Her Facebook photo - I probably shouldn't say this but I've gone there now - Her Facebook photo didn't include her face, it was her in an upside-down pose.

"I shouldn't include any of this, let's not talk about it."

In an attempt to lighten the mood, host Romesh joked that he didn't even know Russia, or any country, had a Yoga federation.

Speaking on TBN's chat show Soul Tears, Sally previously revealed how there was a divide within the pair's marriage after the birth of their son Olly, who has Down's syndrome, The Express reported.

She said: "We'd had a divide that started after Olly in that my husband and I dealt the diagnosis in very different ways and then this division over babies got wider, because he hadn't really taken on board that I was pregnant."

As well as playing Tilly in BBC hit comedy Miranda, she is best known as one of the co-creators and writers of the sketch comedy show Smack the Pony.

She has also starred in comedies including I'm Alan Partridge, Set the Thames on Fire, Veep - and she even appeared in all three films of the Bridget Jones franchise, as the loveable Shazza.
