Luis Suarez was in tears as his Atletico Madrid career came to an end on Sunday.

The 35-year-old striker is set to leave the Wanda Metropolitano after two years with the club following a successful spell in the Spanish capital.

Suarez scored 34 goals in his two seasons under Diego Simeone – his final appearance seeing Atleti draw at home to Sevilla.

The former Liverpool forward started the game and was brought off in the 64th minute, applauding the fans as he made his way off the pitch.

Taking his seat on the bench, Suarez was then pictured with his training jersey over his face as he started to cry.

While his Atletico departure is confirmed, we’re yet to find out where the player will be plying his trade next season.

Former clubs Barcelona and Ajax have both been linked with a move for the experienced striker this summer.

However it remains to be seen whether either club could afford his reported £160,000-a-week salary.

A report from Spanish publication Fichajes has suggested that Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in the player.

Along with Sevilla and Inter Milan, Steven Gerrard’s side are said to be keen on the Uruguayan international as they look to add more goals and guile to their front line next term.

Gerrard has already extended his reunion with one former teammate in the last week, with Philippe Coutinho making his loan spell at Villa Park permanent.

That deal is said to have cost Villa around £17million, with the signing representing a major coup for the club.

Should Gerrard be reunited with Suarez as well, there’s no doubting the quality that will be at his disposal.
