TNT Sports have midweek Premier League games but opted to not show two matches

There's a full programme of Premier League football this week, with TNT Sports showing eight of the 10 fixtures.

All three title contenders are in action, and all three are at home. League leaders Liverpool welcome Sheffield United to Anfield on Thursday evening, with Arsenal facing Luton and Manchester City hosting Aston Villa the previous night.

Fans of Premier League teams will be used to watching TNT Sports' coverage of 12.30pm Saturday kick-offs. The broadcaster aired Newcastle's meeting with West Ham last time out, with the home side coming back from 3-1 down to snatch victory.

This time, though, there's an unfamiliar slot for a programme of matches which also includes Chelsea v Manchester United. Here, Mirror Football explains the situation.

Some 200 Premier League matches, out of 380 total, are freed up for live TV coverage in the 2023-24 season. Those not televised include Saturday 3.00 kick-offs, as well as some Sunday games moved because of teams' participation in European competitions.

Of those 200 games, 128 have been picked up by Sky Sports. TNT Sports has 52, with the remaining 20 shown by Amazon over two gameweeks before the turn of the year.

The majority of the TNT games might be weekend kick-offs, but not all of them. This week's matches are the reverse fixtures of the early December games broadcast by Amazon, and most will be on TNT.

There are two exceptions, though, with Bournemouth v Crystal Palace and Wolves v Burnley not chosen for broadcast. TNT Sports took extra matches during January's split winter break week, forcing them to drop three matches from their midweek slate in late January and early February and two from this week's run.

The midweek games aren't the only TNT fixtures set for unusual slots in April. The meeting between Arsenal and Chelsea, originally slated for FA Cup quarter-final weekend, now has a new date of April 23.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal remain very much in the title hunt after holding Manchester City to a draw last time out. They sit two points adrift of leaders Liverpool, who won against Brighton.

"Obviously, it generates belief, it continues the momentum, and the good position that we are in," Arteta said after the draw at the Etihad Stadium. "And the fact that the boys are there, and they want more, individually they are demanding themselves, they could have done this better, and we haven’t done this well enough like we trained. That tells you how much they want, and we will try our best to continue to do what we are doing."

Arsenal's midweek opponents Luton came desperately close to a result in the reverse fixture. Rob Edwards' side led 3-2 at Kenilworth Road in December, only for Kai Havertz to equalise before Declan Rice delivered a stoppage-time winner.
