What time the Love Island 2022 final is on, and which couples are left in the villa

The latest series of Love Island is coming to an end, with critics hailing the 2022 summer edition as a welcome return to form.

We’ve seen new catchphrases (“liyaaaaar”), some genuinely extraordinary moments of dialogue (“I licked her tit… or whatever”) and, of course, the traditional frenzy of infidelity and never-ending fallout of Casa Amor.

On Monday night, Laura Whitmore will finally enter the villa and reveal which couple has triumphed – here’s everything you need to know about the final.

What time is the Love Island 2022 final?

The final of the 2022 series of Love Island starts at 9pm on Monday 1 August on ITV2, with the special extended live episode lasting until 10.35pm.

You can watch live or on catch up online via the ITV Hub, which you can access on your phone, tablet, computer, Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

It means that the latest series will span 49 episodes – just like the previous three summer editions – as well as eight episodes of Love Island: Aftersun on Saturday evenings.

Including Sunday 1 August and the final, it means there are just two proper episodes left until we say farewell to the villa for another year.

These will be whittled down to a final four for the grand finale, with one unfortunate duo facing the axe on Sunday night’s episode.

The moment of truth will come in the evening after the remaining islanders get a visit from their loved ones in the much-anticipated “meet the parents” episode.

Luca receives a text asking the contestants to gather at the fire pit, where they will learn who is at risk and who is safe after they each voted for the couples they deem the least compatible.

Who are the past winners of Love Island?

The Love Island prize money stands at £50,000, but once Whitmore has revealed the winners they will be asked to pick an envelope each.

One of these contains £0, while the other holds the full £50,000.

Whoever has the envelope with the prize money in it is then asked whether they want to split it with their partner and receive £25,000 each, or if they want to keep the £50,000, thus revealing once and for all beyond any shadow of a doubt if they were in the show for love or money.

After convincing the public of their affections to the extent of winning the viewer’s vote, it would take someone very brave (or perhaps stupid?) to take the brutal step of pocketing the money themselves, and probably ruin their prospects of lucrative endorsements in the future.

Thus far, this has never happened – although some of the romances didn’t last particularly long after the series ended.
