Writers reckon Rangers will need a rocking Ibrox to inspire them against Napoli

It might only be matchday two in the Champions League, but it's already make or break for Rangers.

Europe's top competition takes no prisoners - and after being downed 4-0 against Ajax in Amsterdam last week, the campaign could be over before its property started if the Ibrox side fall to another defeat against Napoli tonight. The Italians hit the ground running with a stunning 4-1 win over last year's finalists Liverpool last Wednesday.

And after the English giants nicked the three points late on in a 2-1 win against Ajax at Anfield last night, Group A has been blown wide open. If Gio van Bronckhorst's side were to lose tonight, it would be difficult to see a way back in their bid to progress from the group stage - but a rocking Rangers crowd could make the difference in this crunch clash.

Record Sport's writers have made their picks ahead of the big one.

Rangers are up against it after a heavy opening night defeat in Amsterdam. Lose this one too and the campaign would be all but over before it’s properly begun. But a bouncing Ibrox under the lights could inspire Gio van Bronckhorst’s players to put on a performance. A point would not be a disaster.

It’s been a bruising week or so for the Ibrox side so the last thing they need are the red-hot Italians showing up at their door. Confidence is rock-bottom which is a problem ahead of facing a Napoli side who were brimming with swagger as they dumped Liverpool last week.

Rangers have had a week to recover from that abject display in Amsterdam but they are facing a team bang in form and anything other than a victory for Napoli will be a shock.

Crunch time for Rangers’ Champions League hopes. Gio van Bronckhorst needs a performance at the very least to prove his players can compete. A point would be handy in keeping hopes alive for a third place finish if not second and a return to Ibrox can spur them on to grab a valuable draw.

Napoli ran riot against Liverpool but Rangers won’t be so wide open and Ibrox will be rocking. Rangers are often at their best when their backs are to the wall and they can contain the Italians to halt the recent slide.

Rangers were awful in Amsterdam as Napoli ran riot against Liverpool, but Ibrox has become an important weapon for the home team in recent months and another strong atmosphere could see the Italians held.
