Boris Johnson is considering cutting the Covid isolation period to five days from seven in the wake of an intervention from the Chancellor. Rishi Sunak is among the majority of Cabinet members who favour a reduction in the existing isolation requirements, The Telegraph reported last night. Asked whether a policy change was imminent during a visit to a vaccination site this morning, Mr Johnson said: "Yes, of course, we’re looking at that and we’ll act according to the science as we always have. "But what I would say to everybody is that omicron is still out there, it’s incredibly contagious, everybody will know somebody who has had it, it can be pretty unpleasant. Sadly, as you know, 90 per cent of the people who are in the ICU with Covid have not been vaccinated and it’s absolutely vital that everybody gets their booster." Lateral flow tests form an important line of defence and will remain free "for as long as is necessary", Mr Johnson added.
