The French president, Emmanuel Macron, said common sense was the main reason for postponing King Charles’s state visit to Paris, as mass strikes and protests continued. The king had been scheduled to arrive in France on Sunday on his first state visit as monarch, before visiting Germany on Wednesday. In a statement, the Élysée Palace said the postponement had been decided by the French and British governments after a telephone conversation between Macron and the king on Friday.
