The UK could soon be recording 100,000 new coronavirus cases a day, the health secretary has warned, but the government is resisting pressure to implement its Plan B response in England. Sajid Javid encouraged people to get vaccinated in order to protect the under pressure NHS, which he said is taking on up to 1,000 new coronavirus patients into its hospitals each day. Covid deaths "remain mercifully low", he said, "but they are sadly still over 100 a day".
