A scientific adviser to the government has played down concerns that Britain could be hit by the fresh wave of Covid infections sweeping across Central Europe. But Professor John Edmunds said the rise in cases on the continent showed just how quickly 'things can go wrong'. Tough new restrictions in the Netherlands have seen violent protests break out. Austria is about to bring in a full national lockdown and is also planning on becoming the first European country to make vaccinations.
