Delhi erects barricades as thousands of farmers march to capital

Concrete and metal barriers up to 100 metres deep, barbed wire and shipping containers have been deployed to wall of the city of Delhi as India’s farmers march toward the capital. In a replay of widespread protests in 2020 over agricultural reforms, the farmers are descending on Delhi with their tractors full of water and duvets, to demand, among other things, that the government set a minimum price for their grain. Despite Narendra Modi’s agreement to repeal the reforms eventually ending the 2020 protest, the prime minister has still not enacted the promises made and the farmers are once again walking from their homes in Punjab and Haryana to demand that they are fulfilled.
