Liz Truss has said she is prepared to be unpopular with her tax policy as she believes it will ultimately benefit the British economy. Speaking in New York, the PM said she was prepared to be unpopular because "what is important to me is that we grow the British economy." But her predecessor Boris Johnson perhaps relied on his popularity, which led him to comfortably win the December 2019 election, leading the Tories to have their biggest majority at Westminster since Margaret Thatcher's 1987 election victory. So, does it matter if a PM is unpopular if they deliver what they believe is right for the country? Or is it that, when it comes to politics, popularity means everything?
