European Commissioner for Inter-institutional Relations and Foresight Maros Sefcovic held a news conference in Brussels on the Northern Ireland protocol. The European Union has vowed to slash checks on British goods entering Northern Ireland as the bloc bent its own rules to revise the Northern Ireland Protocol. Maros Sefcovic, the European Commission negotiator, set out proposals that would eliminate 80 per cent of border checks for products of animal origin entering Northern Ireland from mainland Britain, while checks on all goods will be at least halved. Meanwhile, drugs companies on mainland Britain will not be required to move regulatory functions to the bloc, marking a shift change from current EU regulations.
