Israel orders a ban of Al Jazeera and suspends broadcasts
Israel has ordered a ban on Al Jazeera, suspending the Qatari news network's broadcasts in the country and access to its website. Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet made the decision after it deemed the news broadcaster a 'national security' threat, accusing it of being a mouthpiece for Hamas. Israel police raided the broadcaster's office in Jerusalem on Sunday after the ban went into effect. Al Jazeera condemned the move as a 'dangerous decision', vowing to take legal action. Walid Omary, Al Jazeera’s bureau chief in the occupied West Bank, said: 'It's clear that they want to prevent anyone knowing what is happening in this war in Gaza, inside Israel and in the West Bank.'
