Simon Coveney, Ireland’s Foreign Affairs Minister, said he had told Ms Truss, the Foreign Secretary, during a phone call last night that “breaking international law is not the answer to solving Protocol issues”. Brussels has warned the UK could be in breach of the law if it proceeds with unilateral action and it has also said such action could trigger a trade war. The UK has insisted that any proposals it brings forward will comply with the law.
