Mone allegations: Sunak accused of 'weakness' as Baroness fights to clear her name over PPE claims

Rishi Sunak faced accusations of weakness over his failure to withdraw the Tory whip from Baroness Michelle Mone over allegations around a firm awarded contracts for personal protective equipment (PPE) during the coronavirus pandemic. Lady Mone intends to take a leave of absence from the House of Lords to “clear her name” over the allegations “unjustly” levelled against her. But opposition parties said the Prime Minister should have acted against the high-profile peer over her alleged links to a firm awarded lucrative PPE deals. Labour is expected to force the Government into releasing records relating to the award of the contracts to PPE Medpro during the pandemic. Reports – denied by Lady Mone – have suggested the peer may have profited from the firm winning public contracts worth more than £200 million to supply equipment after she recommended it to ministers in the early days of the pandemic.
